SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE

As Manager, Concrete & Masonry Products you will play a pivotal role in driving strategic outreach and engagement with key stakeholders, decision-makers and industry influencers on behalf of the precast concrete and masonry sectors.

You will support technical and marketing activities across both the Precast and Masonry product groups, working closely with the MPA Precast & MPA Masonry team to deliver technical support, guidance and projects that deliver sector priorities

A central part of the role is to shape and influence industry codes, standards and regulatory frameworks. You will contribute to the development of technical and sustainability guidance that underpins the specification of precast concrete and masonry products. This includes representing the sector on national and European committees responsible for reviewing, developing and maintaining standards and regulation.

 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Contribute to developing best practice guidance related to the use of Precast concrete & masonry products in housing, buildings and infrastructure.
  • Lead outreach and engagement with key stakeholders, influencers, regulators and specifiers on behalf of the concrete and masonry sectors.
  • Build strong relationships with member companies to understand priorities, provide support and ensure effective two-way communication.
  • Provide technical and Marketing support for MPA Precast, MPA Masonry and the wider MPA Concrete Team regarding precast & masonry products.
  • Manage a portfolio of committees and projects as the lead contact for specific technical matters including conformity and performance.
  • Attend meetings nationally (and on occasion internationally) to represent sector interests relating to the review, creation and updating of standards and regulation.
  • Write responses to consultations and calls for input, in collaboration with members.
  • Contribute to developing best practice guidance and key policy messages related to precast concrete and masonry.
  • Maintain a close and regular dialogue with member company representatives to ensure their active participation in group activities.
  • Provide the secretariat for product committees and provide coordination to the wider team in the delivery of required health and safety, sustainability, technical and marketing output.
  • Represent MPA on key UK and European standards committees.  
  • To develop and maintain relationships with member and sector committees, within the construction industry and favourably influence them to specify masonry and precast concrete construction products.
  • Deal with enquiries from members, Government agencies and stakeholders.
  • Assist in the promotion of precast concrete and masonry, as sustainable construction materials of choice as appropriate.
  • To prepare and deliver new content/presentations, and where appropriate, organise specialist presentations from within the concrete and construction supply chain.
  • To prepare and peer review text and content for website, PR and social media etc.
  • Liaise with colleagues throughout MPA to ensure effective delivery of sector objectives.
  • Develop key industry collaborations and partnerships including Brick Development Association, NHBC etc.
  • Collabarate with the wider MPA team, on industry campaigns on sustainability, housing, building safety
  • Manage & update sector resources and publications on a regular basis to ensure they still meet the current guidance and legislation.
  • Provide progress reports, analysis and results of activity to members and to MPA.
  • If required, other duties to support the organisation may be requested.
  • Support other MPA Product Groups as required, including UK Concrete.
 
DIMENSIONS/TERRITORY/SCOPE OF ROLE

The scope of the role is assigned/agreed via annual objectives, monthly reporting and regular project and working group meetings. 

MPA Precast & MPA Masonry is part of the Mineral Products Association (MPA), the Trade Association for the aggregate, asphalt, cement, concrete, lime, mortar and silica sand industries.  It represents over 400 members in the UK who supply over £9 billion worth of materials which underpin the UK’s £120 billion construction sector.

 
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR THE JOB
  • The role requires knowledge of design, manufacture and construction of precast cast concrete and masonry  
  • Understanding of standards and regulations governing Precast Concrete and Masonry products.
  • Previous experience of industry committees and/or the development of standards and consensus across multi-disciplined contributors.  
  • Ability to research emerging and new technology or technical areas.
  • Be able to represent the precast & masonry sector at a senior level to industry and on national/international committees.
  • Knowledge of precast concrete & masonry construction and the market for construction materials.
  • Experience of membership organization or trade body is preferable but not essential.
  • Have experience dealing with multi-disciplinary groups and committees and successfully manage meetings that elicit direct response, feedback and/or direction.
  • Track record of effective relationship management. Be able to prepare and confidently deliver technical and promotional presentations to audiences of construction industry professionals.
  • Be confident and self-motivated when working alone as well as being able to deliver as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational, planning and prioritizing skills and a confident project manager and communicator.
  • Have strong administration skills with a sound knowledge across the O365 suite e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, MS Word, MS Teams, Sharepoint, One Drive.
  • Have an eye for detail and the ability to work under pressure, managing several projects at once and ensuring deadlines are met within budget.
